Whats a dBu ? by
alan ralph
Hi,
At a radio rally, I bought a ALC/AGC module for £5 which seems to be for
audio use. On the supplied data sheet is shows the input and output as
+4dBu. (Unity Gain) With an ALC range of -16 to +14 dBu and headroom 18dB.
Does anyone know what a dBu is ?
I was thinking of building it into either a headphone amplifier, or
amplified speaker, to use with some of the simple radio receiver kits...

Cassette deck controls by
Tom Cumming
I've just bought a second-hand cassette deck (without instructions
unfortunately) and am having a bit of difficulty figuring out some
of the controls. The machine is a Technics RS-BX646. The bits I am
having trouble with a
1. "ATC" - I believe this is some kind of auto-tuning system - but
neither of the two controls ("select" and "off/on" pushbuttons)
appear to do anything, or make...

Capturing, not avoiding, EM interference by
jh
Hi,
I was hoping somebody here might be able to help me with a question.
First, some background. A couple of months ago I was trying to record
the sounds of the insides of my computer for an experimental sound
project. I first tried it with a cheap, crappy lapel mic that came with
a pocket voice recorder. It worked just fine.
Then I borrowed a fairly nice, high quality microphone and tried...

Mechanical joints by
Keith G
Pity to waste this effort on a single offlist email, so....
My 'fettler friend' is attempting an Audio Note Kit One. It is his first
foray into the wonderful world of Fettling (after a few Vellemans kits) and
I am supporting him via email. (As are others...) He has been fussing about
joints to the IEC mains socket and has expressed concern about 'mechical
joints' and has been 'hooking' his...

Using PC as "volume control" instead of preamp by
[email protected]
I use my PC as source (lossless files through Itunes), connected
optically to a Perpetual Tehnologies DAC, then to a Rotel pre/power
combo into Dynnadio 1.3mk2 speakers. Sounds excellent.
However it occured to me that by and large, I only really use the PC as
a source, so in this respect all the Rotel pre is doing is acting as a
volume control. A volume control is however built into Itunes....

Cambridge Audio - an open letter [long] by
Dave Giles
An open letter to Cambridge Audio
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Forums:
At the beginning of 2005 you opened a forums section on your website. This
was, in many respects, a bold move for a company - allowing people to share
information and experiences about their Cambridge Audio products; however,
this would also have provided information about customer preferences and
wishes.
Quick help please! by
jermec
Hello. Group newbie with a dilemma.
My beloved old NAD 302 amp died the other day - sounded like it suffocated.
I need a new one quickly, and auditioning isn't an option for reasons too
complicated to go in to here.
I have an Arcam CD 72 and Kef Q35.2 speakers. Very occasionally a NAD 533
turntable or an iPod may be connected. My absolute maximum to spend is
£500.00. So, is it the NAD C352,...
DRM and the future of digital downloads by
Tim Anderson
Yesterday (27th October) Michael Bornhäuser, CEO of DRM provider SDC ag, and
Barney Wragg, Senior Vice President of eLabs at Universal Music, talked to
the press about the digital download industry. On the agenda: Subscription
vs individual download, Apple, and rogue download site allofmp3.com. Wragg
believes that no one DRM standard will dominate, but that some form of
interoperability is...
Cambridge Audio website by
Dave Giles
Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that the forums area from the Cambridge Audio
website has disappeared today?
Hopefully this is just a technical issue - there were a number of really
good questions about the new 640H hard-disk server which CA could do with
answering...
Any response from CA regarding this would be appreciated.
