Report - 2005 London HiFi Show by Andy Evans
The London HiFi Show 2005 Heathrow, September 23-5 This HiFi News sponsored hotel based show was smaller than last year, more high end, and the overall impression was of a much better overall sound quality - the bad rooms stood out. On the other hand, the systems were routinely on the expensive to very expensive end of the market. The old technologies were very much in evidence - plenty...

Mains connectors for Quad 33/303s? by John Smith
Hi, Is it possible to buy the small round three-pin mains connectors for Quad 33s/303s? 303s were made into the 70s, did they continue to use these non-standard mains connectors? Thanks for any info.

connecting laptop to hi fi by ts
Hi everyone, Not sure if this is off topic, Im hoping not (couldn't find a hi-fi forum!). I want to do something very simple: play music from my laptop on my hi-fi. I have hi-fi separates - amp, DAB, speakers and so on. What piece of equipment do I need to connect the laptop to the amp? I'm sure its really obvious, but just dont know how its done! ;) Thanks guys.

Where to get Turntable serviced?? by Jamezgb
Hi Group, My Rega Planar 3 is in need of a bit of a service...oil for the main spindle and the drive wheel on the motor isn't tight enough (i.e. if you hold it the motor still spins). I have tried to remove the wheel so that I can refit it with a blob of glue but it does not want to budge, so probably best left to a pro. Does anyone know anywhere in the Kings Lynn (Norfolk) area that still...

Anybody got one of these yet: http://www.freecom.com/objects/00005927.pdf if so, are there any 'lipsynch' issues (other than broadcast) and what format does it save in?

Question for Quad 34 owners by [email protected]
Hi, I've just bought a Quad 34 (late one with grey buttons). It all seems to work very well but I'm not sure about the selector LEDs. If I press Radio, Disc or CD the appropriate green LED comes on and the one already on turns off. This is just as I would expect, but the Tape button just seems to toggle on/off and has no effect on the other three LEDs. So if you are using CD and switch to Tape...

NAD CD player problem by Bek
I'm not sure whether NAD products are still getting bashed on some of the newsgroups but anyway, I wondered if there had been any reports of their recent CD players misbehaving? My six-month old C521BEE is having terrible difficulty in reading CDs - each time I load one it makes some of the usual lasery whirring sounds and then stops, thinks for a moment, and then tells me: "no disc". Of...

OT. That's alright then.... by Iain M Churches
Just been reading an interview in the Swedish newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet, given by Victoria Beckham, in which she states that she has *never* read a book, - not even her own (auto)biography. But, then she adds, as if to redeem herself, she does watch TV and listens to some music. So, that's alright then:-)

Speed problems with Rega!! by Jamezgb
Hi Group, I've bought a second hand Rega Planar3 and have just finished setting it all up (with a Rega Elys Cartridge). Replaced the belt (with an official one) and away I go, it sounds fantastic......however!! I've noticed that on passages of music with a sustained note or notes i.e a string section etc, I can clearly hear the pitch varying up and down as if the speed of the turntable was not...

Terminating solid core speaker cable by [email protected]
I would like to use solid core 2.5mm mains cable (6242Y) for speaker cable runs in plastered wall, but I am concerned with how practical it will be to terminate. At the speaker end, I hope that I can simply pinch the cable core with the speaker's binding post. At the other end will be a wall plate with binding posts (e.g. http://tinyurl.com/a3uay ) for the amplifier connections. On the rear of...
