Pioneer CD Changer won't eject by DR
It's a Pioneer CDX-P1230S 12 disc changer - a bit old (6 years or so). Won't eject the magazine when the eject button is pressed - slight sound from inside on pressing button suggests it tries to move something to facilitate the eject, doesn't succeed - then returns to reading discs . You'd imagine something somewhere is slightly out of alignment. Does anyone have any experience with fixing...

Magneplanar 1.6 QR speakers by Dersu
Anyone got them? I auditioned a pair today - I hadn't got my own choice of CDs with me and the selection of classical music in the shop was poor. However I was impressed. Are they as good as I thought they sounded at first hearing? If I buy them they will be replacing Rogers LS3/5a's and LS1 subwoofer in a larger listening room. My amp, which I do not want to change, is a Quad 34/405...

Speaker Recommendation / Advice by u n d e r a c h i e v e r
Hi I'm looking for recommendations for compact loudspeakers for 5 channel set up. Music and movies. I have two Tannoy M1 fronts at the moment. I'd like to replace them with something smaller (or at least flush-to-the-wall mountable) but sounding much better :) I now have a multichannel amp (Denon 3803) and Universal player (Pioneer DVD 575A) so something appropriate for this kind of kit -...

If the cap fits by Iain M Churches
It may be "terribly bad form" to quote a post from another NG, but I know there are many on this group who do not subscribe to RAT, on which the following post from Frank McVey appeared. The comments he makes apply equally or more to UKRA which has perhaps degenerated more than most groups. UKRA seems to be made up of some 10 or so stalwarts, with other occasional contributors. There are without...

Should I upgrade? by Ovenpaa
I posted a couple of days ago re M3 problems, and can now see a resolution once I have tracked down some Audax tweeters, however lurking here for a few days was a mistake because it has set me wondering should I upgrade? I run a real mismatch in that my system ranges from nearly 25 years old to 5 years, and comprises: Meridian M3 speakers Archaic meridian 101B pre-amp Meridian 506 CD transport

Battery powered heaphone valve amp! by Will Reeve
Guys, here's a stupid idea! I've got most of the bits to make a Morgan Jones headphone valve amp apart from the mains transformer and choke...so after a couple of glasses of wine I got thinking. The current consumption isn't going to be too great (how do you work out the current consumption of a valve?)...what about 24 PP3 9v batteries in series to give me a clean 216V DC HT. And a wall wart...

Power amp phase response by Iain M Churches
I would be interested to know the phase response of a high end SS amp (OK, I know, they are ALL high end:-) at 20Hz and say 20kHz, or more points if the info is available. If someone can supply me with some figs (from say the legendary Krell:-) I cold use these a benchmark for the measurements of my own amp. TIA

Cartridges...again by Ian Pollard
Hi I have just started copying some of my old 78 RPM discs to CD for convenience and was wondering how much difference a cartridge change would make. I am presently using a BSR crystal cartridge with turnover stylus. I am not entirely happy with the quality of the sound and was wondering if anyone can recommend a cartridge stylus option to give better quality whilst still giving sufficient...

Remote wireless speaker by r_mervart
I would like to put a remote wireless loudspeaker in the kitchen. It does not have to be Hi-Fi nor stereo, as long as it has a reasonable undistorted sound. I have only Line out on my Hi-Fi system. The distance is only several meters but no direct line of sight. Is there something simple you could recommend that would do the job ? roman

THE KANGAROO BATTLE _ep by Fleetie
DIVINE That word is a kiss of death for credibility. This, because some aware people clearly see in it, a definitive Divine Punishment for a hushed up Collective Crime ! You're flogging a dead horse, now. It's that word again! Incorrect capitalisation. PLEASE FORWARD this dramatic story to all ng you care, and this, for all the world to know !

Cartridge impedence question by Rob
I'm having to cobble together an interim phono premap solution, and I'd be grateful for some advice. I've got a MF LPS phono amplifier rated at 100 ohms input impedence for the MC bit, and an AT OC9 cartridge rated at 20 ohms load impedence. Does this matter? If so, how do I correct it?

Meridian M3 problem by Ovenpaa
I have a pair of Meridian M3's that have given good service for many years however I have lost treble on one speaker, swapping leads outputs etc. does not move the problem so it has to be the speaker. Now apparently if I want Boothroyd Stuart to look at them I have to go through an approved outlet, I think this means the cost is going to be prohibative, and frankly no matter how much I like them...

OT. A song for Christmas by Iain M Churches
Now is the time of year when we should all be singing the "Mrs B.White" song. I hope you all know the words. You should do, as it is still the best selling Christmas record of all time. Iain
