USB soundcard by
Rob
Can anyone recommend a USB soundcard to use with my laptop for the
purposes of:
Listening to mp3s and wavs stored on the hard drive;
Recording stuff from various analogue sources - mainly records.
A remote would be nice, and I'm prepared to pay 150UKP tops.
TIA

OT - Ofcom DAB Consultation Closes on Monday 7th March by
DAB sounds worse than FM
The email address to send responses to the public consultation is
.
This consultation represents the last opportunity the general public has
to express their views on the lamentable state of the audio quality on
DAB, and to express their opposition to Ofcom's proposal that the
commercial radio groups should be allowed to actually drop the bit rates
of their stereo...

Sumvision 512Mb MP3 player? by
Andy Evans
I'm interested in buying a personal MP3 player and the Sumvision one seems
keenly priced at £50 for the 512Mb version.
Are they any good? Is the sound quality a match for my 7 year old personal
CD player?
Any other's I should consider? Don't really want to go the whole hog and buy
an iPOD.
Thanks,

Cassette v mp3? by
AberTech
How would you compare the quality of cassette recordings as opposed to
mp3's? I was about to throw out a few cassette albums thinking mp3 would be
better (256kps+) and then I wondered would mp3 actually be better after all?
Opinions?

Sony Walkman portable personal CD player D-EJ758CK by
[email protected]
Thanks, Pete.
I found the switch where you said - pushed it over - and it worked!
My eyes are not what they were and I simply did not see that small
black-on-black slide switch.
Life has now returned to normal! Thank you from the bottom of my
stiff back which will shortly be exercised!!

Sony Walkman portable personal CD player D-EJ758CK by
[email protected]
Apologies if this is not the right group but I am going mad – if
anyone can save my sanity please reply!
I have the above Sony Walkman but no manual. The CD player must have
been accidentally banged in my sports bag as it is now on "Hold",
apparently a way of locking it down to prevent battery use if it is
inadvertently switched on. I suspect this may already have happened
in the bag as the...

Help needed for vinyl to digital conversion by
Epetruk
Dear all,
I've recently been trying to convert some of my vinyl collection to a
digital format. I did the following:
* Got a connector cable with 3.5mm stereo plugs at both ends;
* Plugged one plug into the phono jack of my hi-fi and the other into the
line-in jack of my computer;

Re Tesco etc. music download by
Neil C
Folks,
Has anyone got any real experience of successfully downloading tracks
from Tesco (in format wma) and converting for CD (wav)?
If so can you tell me whether, once I've got the track onto CD, can I
then copy (rip) it as many times as I like without limit? Or does DRM
protection somehow get built into the track and prevent this?
Can you recommend a reliable cheap wma-to-wav convertor...

Microphone mounting by

How can I mount a microphone inside a car, such that it doesn't pick up too
much low frequency noise from vibration? Wrap it in foam rubber and tape it
to something?

Cambridge Audio Azur 640T signal dropping by
Robert
I posted about this a while back, but I thought people might like to
know that there is now a body of people discussing it on the Cambridge
Audio forum. CA are trying to get the problem fixed but have not
said when that is likely to happen.

Modern speakers for Quad II by
John Smith
Can anyone recommend a pair of modern smallish speakers for a Quad II setup?
I'm currently using a 30 year old pair of Wharfdale Lintons (2 careful
owners from new :-) ). These sound good, especially with jazz, but I wonder
if a modern design might sound better? I assume most modern speakers are
very insensitive compared to the old Lintons.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
John Smith.

FS: 3/4 of an LP12 (spares or for self build project) by
[email protected]
Hola . I have a few selected LP12 bits for sale. Useful for spares or
for making your own LP12. I was going to build my own LP12 until I was
offered a PT modded LP12 for a second system, so these are no longer
required.
All you need is a plinth a motor and an armboard of your choice juice
it with a PSU and you have the basics of an LP12.
Prefer to sell all as one lot asking £150 inc P&P
