FAO Phil : Autism by
Fleetie
Phil,
I still think you're a great laugh, but since I really
do think you are suffering with the autism - I can tell
it's reducing your quality of life - I'd like to pass on
something I once saw in a TV programme about some people
with the condition.
One American academic woman found that she would avoid contact
with people at times, and felt rage and frustration building

Quadraphonic PINK FLOYD Dark Side of the Moon by
Fleetie
Title lifted from an Ebay auction with Pink Floyd
search terms.
I've read a little about quad LPs recently. If my understanding
is correct, the encoding is a little like FM stereo in that there
is information encoded in HF above the audible range, and it's
something to do with sum-and-difference, that when decoded,
yields the rear channel information. How close am I?
I was surprised when I...

Dynaudio Acoustic C3 manual wanted.... by
Peter Neusloos
Hi there,
I bought a pair of Dynaudio Acoustic C3 speakers
and like to read a manual (I'm not secure of their
roomplacing-preferences)
I already mailed Dynaudio, but the monitors are
too old that they have any information for me
(except of a spec-sheet).

Vinyl manufacturing by
Serge Auckland[_2_]
Our dear departed friend Keith has posted this on his web site, so he still
has an interest in audio...........
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/show.htm
I would imagine that the pressing quality is rather better now than it was
in the '70s. If nothing else, having guards round the presses should help to
keep dust down. Health and Safety sometimes is of more use than just the
obvious.

Audiomisc - new pages by
Jim Lesurf[_2_]
Just to let people know I've just added some new material to the
'audiomisc' site. :-)
A) Page on Radford and Bailey, and their power amps. This is based on a HFN
article from last year, but I have extended the article. I've also tied it
in to circuit diagrams of some of the relevant designs. (The diagrams were
already on the site, but until now there were no links to them, so you had
to know...

No sound on PC by
Trevor[_2_]
My sound was a bit tinny so I went into the Realtek HD Audio to change the
settings. I don't know what I changed, only the room type I think and now I
can't get any sound at all, although the volume control is showing sound.

Testing that speakers in phase? by
Terry Pinnell[_2_]
Could someone remind me of the simple test involving placing 'left'
and 'right' speakers close together facing each other please? Am I
right in recalling that they are in correct 'phase' when the volume
sounds reduced/muffled? Or is it the reverse?
(I have some cable extensions to do on the speakers that came with my
new PC, and both wires are identical, so I want to be sure I get it
right.)

A FreeView tuner for radio. by
Dave Plowman (News)
A pal has a small manufacturing facility where the radio is on all day.
It's been cobbled together using his Hi-Fi throw outs but last time I
heard it sounded remarkably good. The speakers are a rather kicked pair of
Tannoy Yorks slung from a roof truss and driven by a Quad 303. ;-) It's
mainly on R1 FM with occasional bursts of R5 for footie. The tuner,
branded Goodmans is pretty old and has...
