The edufication of Graham "Poopie" Stevenson by Andre Jute
Poopie Stevenson says he came to RAT to learn. He won't learn anything by abusing as morons the leading men, who've all done many times what Poopie is trying to learn to do,. Yet that is what Poopie has been doing for the four or five years since he arrived on RAT promising to be "on your arse". RAT, for those who don't know, is a thermionic tube/ valve conference. Since no one has yet told...

Take me to your leader by Andre Jute
The alien ship landed. The alien ambassador scuttled down the ramp and stormed up to the first cockroach it saw. "Take me to your leader," it commanded. "We come in peace." The cockroach waved its antennae vaguely and returned to grooming itself. The alien took the antannae to be pointers to a group of humans. It stopped in front of them and said, "We come in peace. We seek intelligent life on...

Hitachi AX-M69 display by James[_2_]
I bought a Hitachi ax-m69 ab9out 13 months ago and the display has dimmed to almost barely visible from bright blue. I have tried unpluggin it (wishful thinking) to try and reset it. The manual says nothing about dimming controls. There isa button which says CLK.DIM which I have pressed and does nothing but change the type of grpahic equalizer format. Tried pressing it on conjuction with...

Speaker stands and top plate size by [email protected][_2_]
What effect does the size of the top plate on a speaker stand have on the sound. I am looking at some stands where the top plate is somewhat smaller than the speakers footprint so some of the speaker will hang over the edge of the stand.

What a sad excuse for a group this is... by borosteve
Why is it that most of the contributors to this group seem to be some sort of anti- hifi sound quality brigade who seem to think that all cd players sound the same and that measurements and specs of components are king? Have we reverted back to the 1970's when all you had to worry about was how many watts your speakers could handle? Come on guy's if you really don't like quality sound give it a...

Anyone Used One Of These ? by the_constructor
Hi Everyone, I hope that the link below works, usually whenever I try links they become disjointed. My question is this. I want to put my records onto my computer then transfer them onto CD's as a backup. I don't want to go to the expense of purchasing a USB Record Deck so I was thinking that one of the following items may do the job.

Improving loudspeaker crossovers (SBL's) by Stevie Boy
Over the last few weeks I've kinda got a speaker bug as I've been thinking about 5.1 systems. I came across a few sites regarding improvements to SBL/SL2/DBL/IBL range of crossovers as they are all more or less identical. As it now looks that I may be using my SBL's to part accomadate home theatre along with my standard Hi-Fi, I've been chewing on the claims made of improved sound...

Speaker spikes to reduce vibrations through the floor? by D.M. Procida
Would speaker spikes help cut down the sound transmitted to the occupants of a flat on the floor below? If not, what would? I believe the floor is carpeted, and the speakers are not very huge anyway. Thanks, Daniele

Digitizing Vinyl. Help! by Adrian
Time has come to digitize my Vinyl collection. Having successfully copied tape material to CD, I thought this would be easy! My equipment is a Denon DP-35F Turntable with a Denon DL-300 Cartridge, a New ART "USB Phono Plus" interface and a Dell Latitude D810 Notebook equipped with RIP Vinyl. This past weekend I copied three albums. The signal is clean but not strong. I have the gain on the...

QUESTION: Ariston Turntable Voltage Polarity by Arfa Daily
"EADGBE" wrote in message ... I picked up an Ariston Q Deck turntable at a thrift shop recently, but it did not come with its 12v wall AC adaptor. The back of the unit simply says "12V DC 350mA" but gives no indication of the polarity of the AC adaptor. I can find a 12V DC adaptor that...

Apologies if... by Keith G
....anyone here has emailed me direct and not got a reply lately - my new Vista laptop just scooted Tony into the 'Junk Email' folder (it does that) and I almost didn't see it before I cleared it out just now! It's an excellent feature and I love it but, thinking on't, it has been a bit quiet on the email front lately!! Mind you.... ;-)

Over The Top by Jim Lesurf
Hi, I have now produced a new webpage which looks at the way signals from CD, can exceed the nominal 0dBFS level. The page is at http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/HFN/OverTheTop/OTT.html The material is an expanded form of what was previously published in the August 2007 issue of Hi Fi News. It shows some examples of the waveforms reconstructed from commercial CDs exceeding 0dBFS, and also shows a...
