Primare and Gold Signature speakers - a good combo? by
Steve Goodwin
I am looking to buy home cinema equipment which must double as a good music
hi-fi system. It's for a dedicated cinema room which will be part of a new
home extension being built over the next couple of months.
I am seriously considering Primare SP31/A30.5/A32 processor/amps and a 7.1
Monitor Audio Gold Signature speaker system with GS60s as the front
floorstanders and...

Installing built in Shower Mixer by
Oddjob
Hello all, I am planning to install a built in thermostatic shower mixer.
The wall is a plasterboard/timber affair and after drilling some exploratory
holes I find there to be quite a big void in the centre between timbers. The
wall is about 5 inches thick
I think I may run into trouble on this one - what do I fix the valve to?
I'm thinking I may have to put in cross bracing timbers or maybe...

Denon DM 31 - yellow power light? by
Chris Browne
Hi,
My Denon DM 31 cut out a couple of days ago while playing a CD. When i
try to turn it back on, everything seems fine for about a second - it
starts up, the power light goes from red to green, and "CD" appears on
the display, then the thing cuts out, and the power light flashes
yellow. I have mailed denon about this and their only advice was to
disconnect the speakers. This didn't work :(
I...

Advice on building a 5.1 switching box. by
Marky P
As nothing is affordable on the open market, I'm planning on building
a switching box so that I can connect two 5.1 sources to the 5.1
analogue inputs on my amp. I was planning on using 3 double-pole
relays (BT47's) for switching the 6 channels. These would be
switchable by a front panel switch. Obviously, the unit would run
from a 12v power supply. How well would this work? Would the...

Demo track to test speaker setup? by
Terry Pinnell
I've just installed my speakers on my new (MESH) XP Pro PC. Connecting
the 3 stereo jack plugs to the appropriate sockets on the back of the
PC was a bit iffy as the positions didn't correspond to those in the
documentation. But, after fiddling with the Control Panel Sound
settings for a while, on playing my first MP3 I do have sound coming
from all 6 speakers. (Bass in main unit, plus 5...

HA with balance control? by
housetrained[_3_]
I'm really after a headphone amp with a balance control because my wife is
mutt an' in one ear. ATMIT she is using an Arcam amplifier without speakers,
just to watch TV. It's a waste.
So far all the HA's I've seen do not have a balance control. Anyone any
ideas? help.

A small DAC/headphone amp please by
[email protected]
I have just bought a pair of Shure SE530 in ear monitors (earbuds).
Absolutely superb (albeit overpriced). In fact, I'm finding I like
them every bit as much as my trusty 15 year old Stax "earspeakers".
My music is all on my mp3 player and PC these days. I ditched all my
expensive gear a few years ago when I finally admitted to myself that
my ageing ears couldn't tell the difference between...

Faulty switch by
Rob
Can anyone tell whether this switch might be faulty:
http://patchoulian.googlepages.com/things
It's the input selector switch, and the amplifier can only switch
between two of the four sources.
Thanks, Rob

QED v/s Chord speaker cables by
max graff
Dear all,
A friend of mine suggested using QED silver Anniversary XT for my
speaker cables. Having used Chords Chameleons for interconnects I have
some how developed a soft corner for Chord Company cables.
Any suggestions on which of the Chord speaker cables would match the
rave reviews and sound quality of QED Silvers?
Regards Max

Copying MP3 file to 2 CDs by
Alasdair
I have an MP3 file of 57Mb (a radio programme in which I took part)
and I want to put it on to a CD that I can play on a domestic player.
I normally use Nero for this but the file is so big that it will need
at least 2CDs when it is converted to .cda format. Please anyone, how
can I arrange it so that the programme will span over several CDs
asking me to put in a new CD when one is full?

Music made simple, so goodbye jewel box by
Adrian C
Folded cardboard, 2 CD's, no real printed artwork or artist information.
In a Tesco near you. Four quid a piece.

So gone are the days that holding a record sleeve and reading the liner
notes, admiring the well thought out graphic actually mean't something?
