Valves? Ya'd hafta be sodding mad....... by
Keith G
Well, don't know about you lot, but I've spent the day sorting out my valve
gear before Little Santa takes all the 'homeless' (no boxes) munchkins off
for their Xmas holdays - see
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/keith_g/show/holidays.jpg
Having painstakingly assembled the requisite Mullies, Svets and JJs
(including a quad of EL34s that I have no use for*) from Jim Fish of Wilson

Sony M-Crew Software by
Craig
Let's face it, this software is pretty lame, Does anyone know where I can
get any info on the protocols used between the units and the PC?.
I'm a pretty experienced programmer, particularly in serial & midi comms. It
shouldn't be too difficult to improve upon M-Crew if I can get the inside
info.
If I have to analyse and figure out how they speak to each other then it's a
different...

Old Arcam CD players by
Doki
I've got an Arcam Alpha 3 amp and tuner, currently with an old Technics cd
player (can't remember the model, remote control, probably as old as the
arcam gear, at least it sounds better than my DVD player).
Would an Arcam CD player of a a similar vintage be worth having or would I
be better off looking for something like an oldish Marantz in the ad mag
(when I listened to Arcam's recent CD...

Pitch correction? by
Old Fart at Play
I don't know what goes on in recording studios these days
but I heard a chap on the radio say that a lot of automatic
pitch correction goes on for the benefit of tone deaf singers.
He also said that the effect is easy to recognise.
Can anyone suggest a good example that I might hear on the radio?
I presume that the effect is the yodelling sound where the voice
changes in mid-note but for all I...

Troubleshooting: amplifier Musical Fidelity A1 by
Sala Massimo
Still many thanks for your help.
About the A1, what can I say?
When I purchased the A1 I was 19 years old, and it seems to me to buy a
"Cadillac" (also for the efforts to save the money!).
It was really a pleasure to listen to it, with Celestion 5 speakers.
Time goes by... I come to the feeling the A1 is a myth:
* I thought it is 20 Watt class A, now I read it is only 2 Watt class A...

WiFi Stereo by
Mark Dibley
I wonder if anyone can help me.
I find myself in a very expensive position where I need to buy a new
HiFi system, TV and computer. My aim is that I buy kit that can all
communicate with each other. However, I want to do this without wires.
I know I can buy a computer that has a WiFi router/server/whatever
that can communicate with other computers. Is it possible to buy a TV
and a HiFi amplifier...

3xPhono Plugs to 3xPhono Sockets? by
Rod
Hello, I've spent last hour or so trying to find the above lead. Can anyone
help? I'm looking for about a 1m lead as I just want to save the hassle of
repeatedly pulling out my VCR and connecting my 10m lead every time I want
to do some editing to my PC. Many thanks....

Cheapjack DVDPs from Lidl..... by
Keith G
For the first time in my life I went into the local branch of Lidl (cheapo
German supermarket) this morning for a £38 DVDP for my son. (He's addicted
to them). None on display so I asked a girlie who was shelf-filling nearby -
she whisks me off to another little feller who says 'black or silver?' and 2
minutes later I've got a DVDP for chump change spec'd like a good 'un -...

The Secret War Of Jackie's Girls by
Keith G
OK, practising a bit of 'video screenshot capture' and I thought this might
amuse you (and, yes, I know the quality of these pix is ****e - that's just
how it was on the telly):
The other day I recorded a Yank WW2 movie set in England called 'The Secret
War Of Jackie's Girls' (or somesuch) off the telly. It was set in a
fictitious village called Darwell 'near the South of England' -...
