Height of floorstander speakers? by
AberTech
I'm about to buy my first set of hi-fi seperates - Acoustic Solutions from
Argos. It will have to do as a starting point. If you buy 3 AS products
you get the floorstander speakers for free but the Argos website (513/0102)
has them at being 105cm high which is taller than I'd expected. Is this
about normal for floorstander speakers?

Garrard 'Direct Drive' deck...??? by
Keith G
A lurker and infrequent poster here recently bought a direct-drive (??)
Garrard DD75 on eBay and wasn't too impressed with it*. He sent it to me (by
way of a trade) to see if I could wring a bit of half decent noise out of
it, which I have done - see my 'Simple Simon' write up he

Speaker cable banana plugs recommendation ... by
Rob Keel
Hi,
Currently looking at replacing my current speaker connectors with some
new banana plugs.
I have been looking at the IXOS 204's and the Profigold PGA8103's.
Does anyone have any opinions as to which would be the better buy or
maybe someone can recommend a better plug? I dont want to spend a great
deal and these two products fall within my preferred price range.

Sky+ Audio? by
Eiron
I finally got a sound card with s/p-dif optical input
so I can archive all the BBC radio plays stored on my Sky+ box.
These are at 48kHz but I can't find how many bits.
Is anyone aware of any issues in converting this to 44.1kHz 16 bits for CD?
Should I trust Goldwave to do it right?

Denon UD-M30/DRR-M30 problem by
David Chamberlin
I've recently moved house, and the DRR-M30 cassette deck will no
longer 'talk to' the UD-M30 CD tuner/amp.
I can play/record with the system connector disconnected, and the
UD-M30 set to AUX, but the remote then does not operate the DRR-M30.
If I reconnect the system connector and set the UD-M30 to TAPE, the
deck plays, but nothing comes through, even though the remote will
operate the deck.

Teac Universal Player by
Rajesh H
Hi All,
I got a Teac Universal DV-10D recently. I am seeing a lockup issue with
running CD-R. At some random point after playing for a few minutes, the
player locks up. My initial impressions are that the player is heating up
the media too much and the media startes exhibiting soft errors. When the
media becomes too hot, the players stops working.
o Has any one faced similar problems with other...

Pioneer PDR-609 - Erasing CD-R's? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a loan of my cousin's Pioneer PDR-609 CD burner (he is
travelling).
He said to me once that there is a way of erasing CD-R's before you
finalize them. Does anyone know if this is possible, and how to do it?

The Secrets of Shellac by
Iain M Churches
It's great fun to peel off the layers of disc noise
from a shellac pressing and find the detail in
the music which lays beneath.
From the teachest of antique audio goodies
comes an Ellington classic: "Rockin' in Rhythm"
The recording dates from 1930
The track is quite long 3m10s20fr I am sorry

A track for Don by
Iain M Churches
Further to earlier discussion on UKRA
I have been thinking about the use of large capsule
condensers for cymbals, and why despite the far greater
risk of a large mic being hit by a drum stick, that they
are the microphone of choice for most.
A Swedish engineer with whom I have worked
often, thought that a Neumann87 has a lot more
"subtlety" than a small capsule mic such as an 84
It certainly has...

Loudspeaker crossovers and biamping by
Jim Lesurf
Following some recent discussions about active loudspeaker crossover
filters and biamping I have been investigating this general topic. All
being well I hope soon to put onto the 'Audio Misc' site a set of pages
that should help people to design/modify active crossover networks and
understand how they work.
I'm now looking at the actual effects of these on musical waveforms. The
question I'd...

Foight da flab.... by
Keith G
OK, I'm reacting to this extract from an email received this morning:
"he has measured a few SET amps now, and they all seem to exhibit the same
shortcomings - poor damping factor, and flabby LF. 'X' sent me a pic of a
100Hz sine wave. It looked more like the skyline of the Andes!!"
My contention is that if components are well-matched *by ear* the 'paperwork
and measurements' can largely...

Teac CD Recorder Ref 300 series Mk2 ? by
alan ralph
Hi All,
Is there a CD recorder for the 300 reference series MK2 ? I have heard
mention of it, but can not see it on any of the mainstream websites, and
could not find an email address for Teac to get a direct answer from the
manufacturers.I found adverts for a minidisk recorder for the older 300
series, but even that seems to have disapeared from the MK2 models.
If there is one I am...
