How come the laser turntable never took off? by RichA
It seems like it would be the best thing for vinyl records, no wear mechanism. Yet you don't see too many laser turntables. -Rich

The truth about Pinkerton on UKRA and RAT by [email protected]
Gentlemen: I have a mailbox full of letters from members of UKRA, all of them incredibly polite and several gracious and witty, for which I think all these informed and informative correspondents very much. I have checked their facts in the archive and found them to be true and enlightening. The consensus is that: 1. "There is no US on UKRA to send Pinkerton anywhere."

Oinkerton flame war finito by [email protected]
Anyone else note the awesome significance of this: No need for me to counter the BS any further. Pinky simply isn't worth the time. Patrick Turner. It means we can lose Pinkerton sooner rather than later. The way it works is this: the troll Oinkerton only has existence when recognized. If no one answers him or recognizes his existence by writing to him, or about him, or answering his posts,...

Reprint of a prophetic post by Andre Jute by [email protected]
Reprint of a prophetic post by Andre Jute from 26 November 2004. If you can't guess who the organ grinder's monkey is, you should treasure your innocence! ******** RAT may be in the pits now but surely the memory of our glory days entitles us to a first class temple dog. You know, the wannabe solid state guru who sits across the gateway and demands engineering credentials before we are...

The truth about Pinkerton on UKRA and RAT by Dave Plowman (News)
Have you ever tried wrapping custard in newspaper? Easy enough until you try to tie it up with string. -- *Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound.

Hey. lying slime, yes, you, Pinkerton by [email protected]
To Stewart Pinkerton : Three hours ago already I asked you to prove your outrageous lie or, by implication, to apologise. I am still waiting for a reply. I should point out to you that you have been told several days ago that this lie of yours is untrue. You willfully tell it again. That makes you a character assassin. Stewart Pinkerton wrote to Andre Jute: I'm not the...

Pilites, pronunciation and origin of Pinko's disease by [email protected]
A few of the UKRAinians who wrote to my mailbox have apparently been lurking on RAT because they want to know what "pilites" is and how it is pronounced. Prononunciation: Pie-lie-tees. Say it quickly as pile-eye-tees and you have the origin as well. Origin: A Russian once screamed in my face that I was "a spiked ball in the haemorrhoids of the bolshi cheroy," the big bosses, colonels...

Why Stewart Pinkerton commits character assassination by [email protected]
Hello. I'm probably the longest Jute-watcher here, since Mr Jute's text on automobile design was pressed into my hand as my bible on my first day at work right out of college. Normally I just lurk but Pinkerton's grotesque character assassination of Mr Jute should not pass unchallenged. BACKGROUND:After a quick glance at the internet, Stewart Pinkerton postured on RAT and UKRA as an expert on...

THE MARTYRDOM OF ST PINKO PILITES by [email protected]
Stewart Pinkerton wrote: wrote: THE MARTYRDOM OF ST PINKO PILITES Tubes can be scientifically justified on a whole variety of well-rehearsed electronic grounds, and on the general principal under Occam's Razor of KISS. Advice on which speakers are best for my amp ?? by Coconut
Hi Group, I have a Technics SEAX 100 Tuner / Amp which is rated at 2 x 100 watts ( 4 ohm ). Used for not much more than playing CD's at home. The instruction manual states that "the impedance of any speaker used with this unit must 4-16ohm." I am currently using a pair of KEF C55 speakers that are rated at 150 Watt ( 4 ohm ).

Best Sound Engineering Degree by andy
If you wish to study the engineering of sound/acoustics the best in Europe is probably still ISVR: http://www.isvr.soton.ac.uk/ They have undergraduate courses and a range of Masters courses (probably more relevant if you are about to get your first degree in Italy). There are other courses in the UK at Salford and Surrey (possibly others I have been out of touch for a while) but they are...

Question by Dave Plowman (News)
In article , Paul Dormer wrote: My amplifier "allows you to vary the volume from 0 (silence) to 79 (maximum), where each step is equivalent to 0.5dB." How would one relate this adjustment to actual listening levels? It's only a rough guide as ears vary, but the accepted amount to double the apparent 'loudness' is 10dB. But...
