take a look at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA
1) lots of international people, you will fit in just fine with your
intermediate english skills (seriously)
2) in Los Angeles, so once you have been there for about 6 months, you
can take a bus to some studios and try to get some internships
3) the place is mainly a music school, and is crawling with hundreds of
talented and ambitous young...

quad protection circuits. by
Jim Lesurf
It has occurred to me from another thread that I can't recall a UK magazine
article or webpages that clear and reliably explain in detail the
protection circuits in the early issues of the Quad ESL63.
Anyone know of some webpages that already correctly explain the circuit(s)
across C14? Or an article somewhere like WW? If not, and people aren't
clear how it works, I'll maybe add doing an...

Hi, I'm a guy from Italy who decided that sound engineer can be his

Now I wonder to know which are the best Universities which offers a
"sound engineering" or "audio engineering" degree. Here in Italy we
don't have anything like that in University, only...

Quad ESLs - 57 or 63? by

Some friends, working with the Austrian Radio ORF came, wondered what
that extra central heating was all about, then sat and listened: You
should have seen their faces! The best loudspeakers around!

Extracting DVD soundtracks to .WAV format by
Stimpy
Apologies if the answer to this question is staggeringly obvious but can
anyone tell me an easy way to extract a DVD soundtrack to .WAV? My
current method is to play the DVD on my laptop and 'record' the soundtrack
using Total Recorder. This works but it a bit of a pain as it needs to
'record' the audio in real time.
Any way to extract/convert the audio direct to .WAV?
TIA

Red hot anode (plate)? by
John Smith
Hi,
I'm running Sovtek 5881s in in my Quad IIs (keeping the KT88s for special
occasions :-) ).
One of them (I have swapped it around on the same amp and to the other amp
to make sure it is the valve (tube) that is at fault) has a red hot patch
visible in low light. What causes this if its not the biasing of the valve?
I assume it can't be this if the fault moves with the valve and...

Future of iriver HD340 by
Tolgan
I'm thinking of buying one of these as I like the feature set ( microphone,
decent battery life, choice of formats, etc ).
But its quite expensive now that the ipod price has dropped, and I get the
impression the HD340 is due for an ease of use and cosmetic redesign.
Anyone have any insights as to whether any new versions are imminent?

Recommendation for CD recorder Hi-Fi unit please by
Allan Gould
Hi
Newbie request
I am trying to find a CD unit that will record (& play) CDs that will
act as part of a Hi-Fi system. I had a trawl round the net and
(somewhat arbitrarily) came up with the Marantz DR6000, only to find it
was discontinued quite some time ago (rats!)
Could anyone recommend a suitable model that is currently available? I

Audio interface recommendations? by
RodQR
Im looking for something used to record with....24/96, maybe 6 inputs (dont
necessarily need xlr inputs) . With breakout box (maybe rack mounted) that
interfaces to PC via PCI card. I saw an Aardvark Q10 that seemed a good
choice but they are out of business now I guess.
(Its ok if a product is discontinued but I prefer to have company still
around for technical support.)
I see some of...

Quad ESLs - 57 or 63? by
John Smith
I'm thinking of buying some Quad ESLs and I've been reading a lot on the net
trying to decide what I want. The more I read the more I understand (I
think) but also the more confused I get.
I would appreciate some info from those who own or have long term knowledge
of these speakers.
I'm planning to use a pair of Quad IIs as the main amp (I do also have a
Quad 33/303 setup but for now I want to...

Why Stewart Pinkerton commits character assassination by
[email protected]
Dear Mr Jute
I did not post my list of Pinkerton's lies in defense of you. You are
demonstrably big enough to look after yourself. I acted because
Pinkerton's public lack of rationality and decency is an insult to the
profession of "engineer".
Though I did save your private pages before you removed them, most of
what I know about you is from public sources. There is nothing in my
post that...
