Unhappy with Quad FM4 by

I've had a play with it a couple of times recently and been quite

These two seem to go hand-in-hand in my experience. Everything with
DIN sockets has a lower output level than Phonos. I had an old tape
deck once with both phonos and a DIN socket - the output level was
lower on...

Matching to Line In by
Mike Saunders
I want to transcribe my LP's, tapes etc to CD. The problem is that the
only output from my old tape/record/tuner box is the loudspeaker leads.
I believe that these will not match the Line In on my PC
I think the signal may be too great and that it needs attenuating.
Am I right? Can this be done and how precisely may I achieve this. I
have no problem using a soldering iron
Many thanks

"MP3" player query by
Matt Wheeler
Hi,
I've got a couple of questions on "mp3" players , eg hard disk based
(ipod, iriver, sony), or Sonys minidisc atrac hi-md players.
At the moment, I'm considering either the Sony NW-HD3 hard disc
player, or one of their new hi-MD minidisc players, but have a
question on playback.
At present I have a Sony NE711 atrac CD player, burning tracks to CD

Sony DTC-1000 ES DAT deck repair by
Tim
Can anyone suggest where in the UK I might get one of these old DAT
machines repaired? Basically, the transport mechanism has had it.
Also, I read in other newsgroups that these decks have to be modified
to allow 44.1kHz sampling from the analogue inputs - is this true?
Mine seems to do it happily, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been
modded.
Thanks.

Marantz PM7200 question by
Jon
Hi!
I ahve a PM7200 to which I ahve hooked up a Gale Storm 10 inch sub by
putting a Y cable into the pre-power links at the back of the amp. However I
am unable to control the level of the sub in this way. I really want to be
able to control the sub from the amp using the line level input on the sub.
Does anyone know why this isnt working for me?
TIA

Bitstream v PCM audio out? by
John Smith
Hi,
My apologies in advance if this question is too basic for this group.
I have a Panasonic DVDS47 DVD player connected to a Yamaha DSPA5 amp using a
co-ax digital connection (and a standard analogue connection). Unlike other
DVD players I have tried this actually sounds very good playing audio CDs.
In the audio setup of the DVDS47 I have bitstream or PCM out options and
sampling rate options...

Stax System 4040 for sale.
One and a half years old with original owner, as new condition, 550 UKP.
I bought it second hand about a week ago and I've realised I don't like
the valve amp sound.
I'm in Cambridge.

Practical bi-amping by
andy
I am looking at biamping for a pair of speakers. An extra power
amplifier is not a problem but I am having problems finding reasonably
priced high/low pass filters and, preferably, with relative gain
adjustment. I can find filters costing hundreds aimed at hifi and
filters costing less than a hundred aimed at PA. Are the PA filters OK
in terms of distortion and noise? Can someone point me at...

PING: Andrew Walls (Was NAD 562) by
Tony Gartshore
Hi Andrew,
Just thought you might like to know that I now have a 2910 sat in the rack.. Your
recommendation was pretty much spot on. I wasn't expecting such an improvement in picture
quality I must admit.. Must pick up a couple of DVD-Audio disk to see what the fuss is
about..
Where abouts are you BTW? Trondheim ?

Nikko amplifier by
Daan
Hello,
About eight years ago, my father gave me a Nikko amplifier, and now I have
become curious what kind of thing it actually is. I have made some pictures
of it so I hope one can see all relevant things:
http://members.lycos.nl/daang/nikko
So, does anyone know something about it? How old could it be, how much power
would it have? Is it any good or would any 10,- amplifier on eBay be

DAB R3 balance by
Pat Wallace
I'm getting poor R3 DAB quality right now (2005/02/10-20:00). Normally it
sounds exactly like FM except no background noise, but since last night
the frequency extremes are missing. FM is OK, so the audio stages of the
tuner are working properly, and I've fed the digital output into a
Minidisc recorder to use a different DAC and the muffled effect is
present. Hard to see what's left in the...

Add on units to record players by
Richard
Hi. Some companies made units that were meant to allow you to enjoy
stereo using your mono record player with the "add on" unit. I'm sure
what these units were called, I'm just calling them add on units.
Obviously the unit was a mono amplifier.
Does anyone here have on of these units? I mean, I'm trying to identify
one I had a while back and maybe one you got is the same. All I
remember is...

Another Nero question by
Stephen McLuckie
Slightly off topic, but since there is a similar thread running....
I just fitted my new NEC 3500 DVD writer and would like to copy some of my
CDs to DVD, the idea being that I can get around eight CDs on one DVD and
save some shelf space. The writer came with Nero 6, which is also new to me
as I previously used version 5.5.
I intend to extract the WAVs using EAC but Nero 6 doesn't seem to...
