Audacity and Echoes by SB
I'm trying to capture streaming audio from Radio 7. I have a Toshiba Qosmio with sound card. it has Windows XP MCE. I'm using Audacity but the only input options are Line In / Mixed / Mic. Unfortunately when I try and record the audio stream this is played through the built-in speakers, and the sound is then picked up by the in-built mic. Whe played back the recording has extraneous noises and...

Luxman L-11 by Phil Allison
Hi to all, The Luxman L-11 ( from the late 70s and early 80s ) seems to be an obscure model - slightly popular in Scandinavia for some reason. The one I have on the bench was originally from Finland. Here is a pic: http://www.zenn.com.sg/Luxman_L_11.jpg

Digital Cables by Dave Farrance
There was talk on another group about credulity and hugely expensive cables. I was just wondering if *anybody* was prepared to say that they believe the claims for a cable like this, for example: http://www.russandrews.com/product.asp?pf_id=2565 "£797.00: KIMBER Select KS-2120 Digital Balanced "KS-2120 not only uses the highest purity silver, it incorporates KIMBER's latest discoveries in...

Near Miss by Fleetie
Dear me! What a fright! My girlfriend was round last Tuesday and I got rather tipsy. Rather too tipsy! I can't remember how it happened but I fell over near the TV and speakers and ended up knocking one of my beloved Dynaudio 52SEs off its stand. It landed on the floor. I think it hit the TV on the way down. OMFG!!! I can't afford to replace those speakers! I was so lucky. It didn't land face...

Very Low End. It all Sounds Wrong. Be Gentle. by Edward Green
I am in no way a Hi-Fi expert or Audiophile. I have a 10 year old Rotel entry level Amp and 5 year old Aegis One entry level speakers, with reasonable quality cables. Inputs vary from my DVD player for Movies, through my MP3 player sometimes, to my CD DJ Decks. Something just doesn't sound right though. And I am not sure how long it has not sounded right. And whatever source I use there is...

new headphones with weird problem by [email protected]
I got SONY MDR CD-480 headphones and have connected them to computer (AC97). The problem is that they produce very distorted sound. Interestingly when I move balance to only left speaker, sound is OK and it can be heard from BOTH speakers inside headphones. The more I move balance the better sound. That would work fine, but I want stereo sound. What could be the cause? Can it be solved? I plan...

Are you willing to buy SACDs? by Jack
I don't own a SACD player now but buy the disks of new releases (Goldfrapp - Supernature; Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel) as my next player will be SACD compatible. I don't care about DVD-A, since even fewer of them are available. I am willing to spend say 10% more for them than for normal CD's, but not much more. a) Do you think SACD is doomed?

Philips DCC - stuck cassette drawer by Eeyore
I've got one of the Philips DCC ( digital compact cassette) machines - mains operated. Whilst there are some issues with the longevity of the digital recording ( self erasure ) it's a truly fabulous analogue playback deck which is my main use for it now. It's got a motorised cassette drawer that refused to open after a period of not being used so I opened it up and fiddled with it and got it...

Volume control lag by [email protected]
I am experiencing a time lag of about 10 seconds from the time I change the volume on my Onkyo NR1000 till I hear the volume change out of the speakers. I suspect this is the internal processing time of the Onkyo receiver but of course this is quite unacceptable and annoying. I appreciate any pointers or help on how to resolve this. Also curious experiences with other receiver brands on volume...
