Vinyl obsolete in Japan also...?? by
Keith G
No, I don't think so - nor 'horns' either...
These pix were taken probably only *yesterday* by my little friend in
Brussels who is over there on work:

A warning to aspiring 'high end' builders.... by
Keith G
The chooner's been today and I wuz chatting with him (as you do)....
I asked what piano would he have if money was no object - the answer
'Fazioli' was back in a flash and we chatted on. (The most recent Yamahas
are good now and probably better than Kawai, Steinways can be very good,
same with Bosendorfer - which one you choose depends on your own
tastes..&c.&c.)
Mind you, he says -...

Vinyl to CD on a PC by
[email protected]
Hi,
My middle-aged PC (Athlon 700 / 256Mb / 30 Gig) has no sound card and I
want to buy one. I also want to transfer some of my favourite vinyl to
CD. Can I do this with a basic soundcard + software or would I do
better to buy a more advanced soundcard maybe with its associated
software?
Thanks for any info.

Converting 1/4 inch tapes by
Glenn White
Hi Everyone
I have 5 old open reel 1/4 inch tapes from about 40 years ago that I would
like converted into either mp3 or wav format on a CD/DVD. I would do this
myself, but don't have an open reel tape deck anymore. Does anyone know any
way that I could get these converted, such as a commercial service, or
anyone who has an old open reel tape deck who would be prepared to do it
under...

Speaker repair - foam surrounds by
doki
Does anyone know a seller of foam surrounds (ie, the bit that actually holds
the drive in place at the front end), as I've knackered a pair of ancient
speakers by giving them a good blasting. Replacement isn't really an option
as I like the way these can produce deep bass (8" woofer you see) and
haven't got much cash.

Krooger needs help -- where's Worthless Wiecky? by
George M. Middius
The Krooborg is defeated after one round.
Arns, let's bring this back on point. The point is that your
justification for berating or otherwise belittling people's audio
choices is based on 'engineering' and/or 'business' concerns. My point
is that is a crock of ****, and that you are nothing more than a petty
asshole.
Post dismissed on the grounds of being based on a false...

Impedance by
doki
Got an old Aiwa (IIRC) amp driving some 4 ohm speakers. Getting one of the
speakers cutting out occasionally but it doesn't seem to be wiring. Could it
be the old volume pot or caused by the 4 ohm speakers running of an 8 ohm
amp?

Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P2 by
Jon E
I have just inherited a pair of B&W P2, which as I understand were their
first ever speakers, does anyone know any more about these?
They are very big, and have a power socket to plug in the tweeter by the
looks of things.
Also, if anyone is interested in them please let me know as they are too big
to keep and I'd like them to go to a good home.
Many thanks in advance,

Targeted marketing takes a new turn by
Don Pearce
I just got an email from Amazon that starts like this:
Dear Amazon.co.uk Customer,
As someone who has not previously purchased a MP3 player from Amazon,
we thought you might be interested in our fantastic range of MP3 and
digital audio products and accessories.
Now the list of things I have not bought from Amazon is pretty
extensive. So what do you think I may be "targeted" with next?

EARN GOOD MONEY by
Jim
You may have read these letters asking you to send £1 to 6
different addresses. Putting your home address on the internet can be
risky, but through PayPal all you have to provide is your email
address. Its safe and easy. Just go to use the link below and set up
your account! I am not a gullible person and have never trusted things
like this, but I gave it a try, hey its only £6, I figured at...

Portable SS recorders...?? by
Keith G
Anybody any experience of the Marantz PMD660...??
http://www.solidstatesound.co.uk/marantz_pmd660.htm
I'm toying with the idea of mooching about (next year, probably) with a view
to grabbing 'naturally occuring sounds' - up to very loud, close-up WW2
aircraft engines, possibly. Are these gadgets up to it, or are they really
only close-range voice recorders?
I'm kinda dismissing the Edirol,...
