FA: SONY MDS-JE500 Minidisc Deck DIGITAL IN/OUT w Remote by
Rowdy
This is when Sony made good MD decks, the later ones stripped out all
the good features, and made them with cheap components....this was one
of the last good quality home decks, and the sound rivals DAT machines.
Used in a smoke-free studio and never gigged.

Damned remasters... by
Glenn Richards
Have now come to the conclusion that the word "remastered" should really
be pronounced "*******ised"...
In a posting a while back I think I said that the remaster of Paul
Simon's "Graceland" hadn't been subjected to the loudness wars...
Bzzzzzt! Wrong answer! The MP3s I had of this album had been ripped from
the original release, not the remaster I bought a couple of years ago.
Look and...

Any good modules/kits to build 300w MOSFET stage amp? by
Andy Evans
I'm looking for some way of building a couple of portable (think "I can
lift it and carry it upstairs in one hand") active speakers for use
with keyboard and/or bass guitar for occasional gigs. I anticipate
using a seperate preamp. There are a few 100w modules about (built a
Maplin one a while back) but anything more like 300w? I'm thinking of
reproducing a Roland Cube or Polytone type cabinet...

CD Player Problem - Help Please by
Richard Wrigley
Greetings from Norolk (UK)
A colleague has a Philips CD 692/05B as part of a music system made by
Keytronics (a CD50 system). This is used to provide music for dancing
(Ballroom) and as such has variable speed for the playback.
Can anybody advise where I might get him a service manual for the CD player,
and if there is somebody competent to repair it in his area (Hertfordshire
UK), and if there...

Reparing KEF t27s by
jasee
Actually I was rewinding the voice coil. (I've done this succesfully before,
but not with this tweeter). It seems that the enamelled copper wire that was
used was not standard enamelled copper wire as the total length of the dual
layer coil was about 2.84metres which in 40SWG gives a dc resistance of
about 3.7ohms. However the original which appears to be the same gauge
measures about 7ohms....

Audio players compatible with slimserver by
Jeremy
Hi folks, just started looking at this. I have installed slimserver on a
PC here and really like to get a wired or wireless player which will
interact with the slimserver and output into my existing amplifier.
Looking around the net, there appear to be some SlimDevices-brand
options - are there any 3rd party devices that link up to slimserver?

What do you do with a *lively* room? by
Keith G
You use it!
I've been meaning to throw a pair of OB speakers together for a while (had
the ideal drivers kicking about for ages - Visaton B200s) and never got
round to it, but I was sent a pic of some nice OBs the other day and they
got me thinking.....
They were stood out in the middle of a room which I thought wouldn't have
been doing them any favours and it caused me to wonder what...

Hot Quad 306 by
[email protected]
Hi,
I've recently moved to a Quad 306 amp (after IIs and 303s) and was
surprised how warm/hot it gets but before I panicked I read the manual
where it warns that it does get quite warm.
Is this true for all Quad current-dumping amps, and if so, why do they
get so hot? The 303 driving a similar setup and at a similar volume
barely gets warm.

5.1 headset (N-TEC MK-1000 & Speedlink Medusa) by
Mark Young
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. Possibly someone that owns a pair of
Speedlink Medusa headphones.
I have a pair of 5.1 surround sound speakers that I picked up at a computer
fair, they are labelled N-TEC MK-1000. I was happy with them until the
inline cable developed a loose connection. So I've been thinking of
replacing them. Firstly I can't find any where to buy a replacement, so I'd...

Quad 66 CD player transit screws by
[email protected]
Hi,
I recently bought a Quad 66 CD player. In the manual it mentions
'transit screws' that need to be removed before use. There is no
diagram showing where the screws are nor is there a description of what
they look like. I asked the person I bought the player off and he
couldn't remember taking any screws out of it.
Looking at the bottom of the player I can see two threaded brass
inserts. If...

Buying SACDs - my strategy by
Jack
1. I really do not want to replace my existing
collection of CD's with SACD's unless of course
there is a DRASTIC improvement in the sound
quality of a specific album.
I will only buy brand new albums on SACD and
hopefully get the full benefit of the format.
2. A lot of older albums are being remastered onto
CD but I frequently see complaints about the sound
