Linn Keihlid Tweeter by
Adie
Hi,
I seem to have some issue with a tweeter on one of my keihlids, in-so-much
that its not working.
I had a mishap and dropped the speaker 2 inches onto a marble floor, no
visible damage, but no tweeter.
Could it be a number of things or is it just the tweeter is busted, is
there an easy way of finding out, short of moving the good tweeter into the

£1000 on a separates kit - ideas? by
Cuzman
I'm in the market for a separates system with a budget of approx £1000.
That seems to be pocket money to many of you here, but it will be the
most I've spent on a system to date. What I will need is:
1) Integrated amplifier
2) DAB/FM tuner (extra bands welcome)
3) CD player
4) Pair of floor-standing speakers

Ferguson Studio 50D - any info please by
Slowchordchanger
Hi,
I've just bought an old "music centre", model Fegurson Studio 50D.
This unit looks very much like a Hitachi unit I had many years ago.
At present just the tuner and amp are working, I'm very impressed with the
quality of the amplifier and would love to restore the whole unit to life.
The cassette deck runs however, there is a minute amount of output on one
channel and nothing on the other. ...

Replacement cones in UK by
schoey2k
Hi
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK which sells replacement
loudspeaker cones,
I'm repairing a pair of Wharfedale E.FIFTYs and both base drivers could
do with a new cone, at a push I think I could get away with re-sticking
in the original cones, but they have deteriorated with the humidity
where they were being stored,

Problem with Quad remotes by
Derrick Fawsitt
I am the proud owner of a Quad CD99 CD-P player, its Pre-amp, the 909
power amp feeding the latest 989 ESL Speakers.
However, from the start I have had a problem with the remotes, the one
that came with the 99 can control everything, except the volume for
which I have to go to the other one, I presume the one that came with
the amp (?). In any case I have two and I am told that one remote...

Wet Vinyl by
Dave W.
A couple of years ago someone posted on this group (I think) a recipe
for a solution of water and isopropyl alcohol to be used on imperfect
vinyl when playing (one last time to digitize). Apparently this tip
originated in the BBC. Works a treat but my bottle is running low and I
have forgotten the proportions. Can anyone help?

I've also got a 2m pair of XLR copper-silver-carbon hybrid pre-amp
cables (van den Hul), 200 UKP new, looking for 100 UKP now.

Friends of Radio 3 by
David Houpt
Hi
I hope that this has not already been posted. Apologies if this is the
case. The Friends of Radio 3 have written to various BBC managers to
complain about the reduction in bit rate from the normal 192kbps to
160kbps. You can read the news item at

Cambridge Audio music server (networking) by
jb
I recently bought a Cambridge Audio 640H music server. I'm more than
pleased with it, I find it easy to operate and I've already uploaded
much of my music collection to it. Its networking capabilities, though,
have defeated me. It has hooked up to the internet through my router
and accesses title / artist details and internet radio as it should,
but I can't get it to "talk" to anything else on my...

Well over my head but thank you for sticking to audio.

We have lots of audio-related threads on RAT. Not all of these will be
over your head, or Jenn's, who's made similar remarks:
On negative feedback, psychoacoustics, predictive value of THD,
Hawksford, etc, nuggets among the boring stuff about BJTs you've...

ESL57s - loss of high frequency? by
John Smith
Hi,
I compared my 1974 pair of ESL57s against a pair of newish TDL speakers
using a test CD with stepped tones and measured the output with a sound
level meter. The high-frequency roll-off of the ESL57s was very noticable.
The higher tones (10kHz up) were there but the volume dropped off rapidly. I
was using a late (mid-eighties) Quad 34/303 combination for the test.
What is the most likely...

Mains-powered MP3 player? by
Colin P
Hi guys,
Does anyone know where I could get a mains-powered MP3 player, or if
such a thing even exists?
Although I can do something similar probably using a flash MP3 player
with a docking station, I was curious if anyone knew if anyone makes
such a device?
The usage is for an on-hold music input for a PABX phone system.
