Too neat to waste... by
Keith G
This is part of my reply to a friend who has Klipsch Heresies already but
expressed a curiosity about my speakers. I thought it too *neat* to waste
and have posted it here mainly, I suppose, to aggravate the Pencil Dicks
here who are too scared to step outside the safety zone of legacy Brit
'evergreens' and are full of yap and *advice* - yet too fekkin' embarrassed
to tell you what speakers...

A beast of a power amp from 1977. I'm looking for one for a relative
who has a matching preamp and would like the Power Amp.
Please email me (yes my email address is correct) if you have one for
sale or know where I can obtain one from. Thanks.

Budget hifi opinion by
George M. Middius
Poopie Donkey admits the truth about his skills in the world of business.
Poopie tries to scare somebody.
NAD stuff has always generally been pretty decent. I nearly worked for them once btw !
But just in time, the HR manager checked your "references". Whew!
Actually, it's because I wanted to continue in a self-employed role whereas they wanted a
full-timer.

Speaker Stands: with or without spikes? by
Ale
I am about to construct a couple of speaker stands to my DM601 S2 and I
don´t know if I should use spikes between the stands and the floor. My
floor is hard (without carpet).
In case I should use them, should I use 3 or 4 per stand?
What about between the speakers and the stands? I have also seen spikes
there.
I have found contradictory information on the web about this topic, I
would like to...

Autumn Wackiest Track Competition by
Keith G
OK, Autumn is upon us and we will all start to lose the will to live as the
weather slowly gets worse (lovely today, though) and the nights get longer.
So, to brace us up, I want to host a competition to find the *wackiest
track* anyone can come up with. I will award a little summat nice (but
spare) out of my toybox to the one who is voted the best - rules as follows:
No rules (yet) - you...

Public domain downloadable file for burn-in and testing? by
Arnold
I want to get hold of a free burn-in CD for my new amp. Does anyone
know of a public domain download that can be copied to CD and played?
I am also looking for a similar download file with tones of different
pitch but the same volume to compare left and right speakers.
Yes, I could buy something over the web from the Audiophile /
Stereophile website but I want it today still.

CD Player up to 500£ - Opinions by
Luis Freitas
Hi all,
I'm in the market for a new CD player. Not willing to spend more than 500£,
what's your advice?
If there are some good options with price tag significantly lower than 500£,
they would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

The advantage of vinyl playback systems by
APR
I recently, after reading all the posts debating the various merits of of
CD and LP, went out and bought the latest and greatest budget CD player, but
now have a problem.
I am having difficulty determining how to change the what-see-me-jiggit that
should allow me to tailor the sound to suit the different types of music I
want to play. You know how you can change the cartridge in your...

Village Hall audio by
[email protected]
Can anyone offer advice, please.
Our village hall (about 20m x 6m but very high roof) has what I thought
an adequate PA setup - a Shure hand-held radio microphone feeding a
decent PA amplifier (Carlsboro) feeding four Wharfedale Linton speakers
which are mounted (two on each wall), about 4m up and 5m apart - where
the eaves meet the walls, angled downwards.
The current setup is fine for...

Hi-Fi that Rocked the World by
Arnold
In May 2006, Hi-Fi Choice's reviewers sat round an email client program
and between them came up with the 50 most important hi-fi components
ever sold in the UK. The results were published in an award-winning
supplement Hi-Fi that Rocked the World. If you missed it, here's the top
ten:
1. Linn Sondek LP12 turntable
2. NAD 3020 integrated amplifier
3. Quad Electrostatic loudspeaker

Cyrus 2 + PSX - no phono problem by
Thom White
Hi all, I hope someone can help with this...
I've purchased a lovely Cyrus 2 and PSX, but I can't get any phono
output. I know the other outputs work fine, and the record player is ok.
I did notice on a google search that:
"As I remember the Cyrus 2 has to be mains powered too in order to feed
the phono power supply and the power indicator LED."

Quad FM4 Memory Problem by
gary
My Fm4 has a strange problem, I have replaced the back up battery and this
is working, if I store a station at 88.10 mhz when I switch it back on the
frequency comes up at 88.00 mhz for the first 5 - 10 minutes, it then slowly
creeps up to 88.5 then 88.10, it does this on all stations stored.
Does anyone have any ideas about this
Thanks
Gary
