Music Audio DVD
By default, Toast records Music DVDs in Dolby Digital 192 kbps audio.
This compresses the audio to maximize disc space to fit over 50 hours of
music, but maintains full Hollywood-style fidelity.

Not enjoying the cacaphony of the sales hack Steven R. Rochlin abusing us to make a buck by
Andre Jute
Rochlin: far from "helping audiophiles" as you claim,
you are a parasite on high fidelity, pushing bland and
incompetent **** because the makers pay you for
adverising on your silly site and for the number of
foolish audiophiles who read your one-sided
travesties of reviews. You are a sales hack, pure
and simple, but one without the balls to open up
an emporium on the high street. --- Andre...

Mains Supply by
Jay Kaner
Hi group.
I am very happy with my hi-fi. The thing is, it sounds a whole lot better
in the early hours of the morning (2-6am) than it does the rest of the time.
Am i right in thinking this has something to do with the mains supply? It
seems logical that it sounds at its best when the electricity supply is at
it's lowest demand.
If it has, would buying mains conditioners/cables help make it...

Tweeter mounting by
schoey2k
Hi,
What would be the effect, if any, of mounting a tweeter (O/D: 130mm;
Voice coil diameter: 25mm) directly behind an aperture (76mm diameter
and 16mm thick)?
This is an absolute last resort but due to the makeup of the speaker
cabinet there is no way to secure it from the front.

Advice needed - Looking for software to batch level adjust MP3 files by
Clubsprint
I have a large number of MP3 files that I'm streaming and I have an issue
with the variance in the overall level of the files. I'm looking for some
software that I can batch adjust the max level on each file. I don't want to
tamper with the dynamics of the file (ie no compression) just the overall
level. If someone could make a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Battery op speakers inquiry by
The Fuzz
Hello to you all.
I hope that one of you can help me here but what is the loudest battery
powered, non-Ipod docking, portable speaker system that you know of?
All of the ones I can find seem to level off at only 3 Watts per
channel like the PowerTraveller K2000.
Any suggestions?

LPs to CD - low-noise soundcard? by
Allan
The onboard sound in my computer has a lot of noise and I'm wanting to
convert a lot of LPs and tapes to CD. I assume the noise is from the
power supply, and that I need an external soundcard/interface.
Any suggestions on a low-noise, decent brand?
Thanks for reading...

Actions speak Lowther than words.... by
Keith G
In case anyone is interested, here is a truly *atrocious quality* OPEN MIC
recording of a couple of trax of wacky music played from me new Lowther
'Infidelios'.
It does have hiss, it does have whump whumpa, it does sound like it was
recorded in a public toilet and I think it will be the last time I bother -
there isn't much point to stuff this poor quality. Also, there are no really

Anybody built a DAC kit? by
Andy Evans
Just wondering what success any of you have had building DAC kits.
there are some cheap non oversampling boards on ebay these days like
the DAC-AH
http://eshop.diyclub.biz/articles.php?tPath=2,
and this has a growing user base - it's about $140 which comes out
under £100 with shipping I should think. Possible, also, to add a tube

As subject, I'm the only owner, it's in *perfect* condition, absolutely
no problems whatsover, has only been in my flat and basically hasn't
moved since being bought in 2002.
Selling because I don't really need it any more; I sold the Martin-
Logans I used it with because when all was said and done, the flat was
too small for them and so they never sounded as they should and then I

FM aerial in London by
[email protected]
I have scaffolding going up next week, and I'm intending to take the
opportunity to replace my TV aerial. While I'm up there I'd like to put
an FM aerial on the pole as well. I don't need anything too high end,
I'd just like to get rid of the slight hiss I get from my crappy loft
mounted 'halo' aerial. I only ever listen to radios 3 and 4 (middle age
is creeping up, so I guess I'd better allow...

Wharfedale spares by
schoey2k
Hi
I am looking to find a replacement tweeter for a pair of speakers, the
cabinets were made by my father but the speaker units inside are
Wharfedale ("Wharfedale" is stamped on the magnet of the base driver
and on the plastic insert to the front of the cabinet of the tweeter).
They must be approaching 20 years old.
There is nothing specific to any of the units marked on them,
