Ear pads for Sony MDR-v6 headphones by
Tim Streater
Does any one know where in the UK it might be possible to get
replacement earpads for these headphones? Mine are falling apart (a
common problem it seems now I look into it).
I can get beyerdynamic ones (p/n 942704) from B&H in New York but then I
am paying $35 shipping for a $20 part.
Thanks for any pointers.

Hmmm! by
Iain Churches[_2_]
I talked on the phone with a chap today who
told me he had a very good idea for a high-end
loudspeaker cable.
It was based upon some thick twin co-axial with
two separate shields. He had then connected
the screen of the left wire to the inner of the right
wire, and the inner of the left wire to the screen
of the right wire. He made a cable like this for
both channels, and inserted it onto a 12mm

Robber Baron Redux: Location, Location, Location.... by
Keith G
A little while ago I bumped into my neighbour again and had the chance
to briefly confirm a few points in the VCR repair saga...
Apparently the VCR was/is a Panasonic and is about 3 years old. (Fekkin'
good start, but let's not get bogged down at this stage...) My neighbour
has no special attachment to it and simply wanted it fixed for as little
as possible (naturally). He had had no idea...

I go to the end of our road... by
Keith G
Having just posted (at length) about buying a PVR to use with a 'spare'
300 GB HDD in an external USB box that I have here, I have *walked
through* its sodding power lead and sent it flying! Now it (the HDD
itself) goes like this when I switch it on:

...and the computer doesn't see it.
It *is* fuct isn't it....??

Ortofon OM 10 or 2M red - which to choose by
max graff
Hi guys,
I am in a process of upgrading my Ortofon 5E cartridge from the
factory supplied 5E (with my Debut III) turn table to either the OM 10
or the just released 2M red.
I mainly listen to Jazz and Rock which means I am looking for
sufficient detail and bass at a budget cost. Both of these cart's are
around the same price mark.

Musical Fidelity KW Transport by
Jonathan[_2_]
I recently purchased the Musical Fidelity KW transport and DAC, mainly
having read some great reviews.
The purchase was on a 30 day trial period which suited me better than a
shop demo.
Anywise, I took it back and exchanged it for the Leema Antila after a
week,
plus a large refund.
The MF sounded awful, worse than my Arcam FMJ 33.Female vocals in
particular sounded shrill.

Small problems with a new Denon turntable. by
JavierM
Hello, I bought a new Denon DP300F turnatble and I was a bit
disappointed and worried as it came without a ground wire. I plugged
the turntable to my Denon amplifier, at the phono input and there is a
small noise, something like a small zuuuuummmmmm
How can I solve this? Can I put myself a ground wire, from some inside
parto of the player? A little help would be appreciated, sorry for my
errors,...

Building my own valve amp by
max graff
Hi guys,
I am planning on building my own valve amp and need a starting point
viz. books, forums etc. Any tips would be of good help.
I have proved to myself that I can solder well and don't have shakey
hands and did EE in my previous life.

Foam mic cover for computer headset by
Evan
Folks,
My daughter decided to have a chew on the mic cover of the headset we
use for videoconferencing.
I can't believe that these are not available to buy in generic form,
but my Google searches have so far only revealed large 40mm sizes.
This one would have to be closer to 8-12mm.
I'm in the UK and would appreciate being pointed in either a dot.com

Mini System Interconnects by
Walney
I have got a Mission MM7 mini system which is perfectly adequate for
my needs. In common with all such set-ups, there are compromises.
Needless to say with this manufacturer, the strongest link in the
chain is the speakers. It is the cassette deck which has been less
than satisfactory. Recording and reproduction have been fine, but the
deck is let down by a noisy transport, audible during...

Old CD player and CDRW by
M Jones[_2_]
My old Marantz CD63SE cd player will play CD-R but not CD-RW media. Does
this have anything to do with dye colour or is it down to other factors?
The CDRWs I am using are dark blue. Is it possible to purchase CDRWs that
will play in otherwise non compatible players?
Thanks.

Kennedy Assassination by
bkj
Am involved in a special media project concerning both the JFK and RFK
assassinations. Need TV and radio coverage from these two
assassinations in November 1963 and June 1968... audio recordings,
video tape and/or film. Of special interest: old reel-to-reel
recordings of 1963, 1968 broadcasts. If you have any of these or know
of someone else who does, please let me know. ...

Tube design testbed by
Ian Thompson-Bell[_2_]
As you may know from posts I made a few months back (before I moved
house) I have been doing some work on using 6AU6 tubes in triode mode
for preamps. The set up I have at the moment is pretty crude. I stripped
a chassis from an old battery valve radio, wired in the components I
needed then bolted it to a piece of wood along with the mains
transformer and PSU components. This is OK as far as...

iPod price reducton by
Woody[_2_]
I notice that Apple have reduced the price of the 80Gb iPod Classic to
£159 - so everyone (well, Currys anyway) are selling it at that price.
The 160Gb is down to £229.
Is it a loss leader - given that it was nearly twice that price only a
few months ago - or are they selling them off as a precursor to the
iTouch?

Questions for the student No. 141 by
Andre Jute
A STAX 252A amp, same as the 2050 sold in anglo markets, has parallel-
connected input ports, called "through ports". With both sets of
inputs connected, one to a CD player, one to a computer output, the
sound is muted, dulled. With the computer leads pulled, the sound is
louder and brighter.
Is this report what we would expect? What is the key mechanism at work
here? Suggest some ballpark...

A slice of fruitcake: Trevor Wilson's novel definition of a lie by
Andre Jute
Trevor Wilson of Rage Audio in Melbourne has a most novel view of what
constitutes a lie. In the thread "The Catch-22 of Negative Feedback
aka NFB" Wilson accused me of lying about Blowjobs for Transvestites
(BJTs) in a debate about negative feedback. When I protested that I
had said nothing whatsoever about blowjobs for transvestites, Wilson
replied:
